On average, Dalton International organizes an international online Dalton café twice a year. During these online meetings, two or three speakers give an in-depth presentation on a central theme. These themes are always closely related to developments in Dalton philosophy. Below, the themes are briefly discussed for each meeting, and where reports of the introductions have been made or articles written, these are provided as links in the text.
October, 29. 2025: World-Centered Education.
Dalton International was honored to extend a formal invitation to attend the Dalton International Café dedicated to the theme: World-Centered Education.
Huib Wursten, global expert in intercultural strategy and author of The Seven Mental Images of National Culture, gave a presentation entitled: “Dalton Across Cultures: Translating Educational Values in a Globalized World”.
Anja Schoots, manager at a Dalton school en researcher on Dalton education, gave a presentation entitled: “Cultivating Human Potential in the Dalton Plan: Agency at the Heart of Education”.

Huib Wursten wrote his contribution in an article and offered a second article in which he elaborated on the subject of his presentation:

April, 26. 2024: Metacognition and Self-regulated Learning: Empowering Dalton learners
In the first presentation Patrick Sins (Professor Alternative Education Thomas More University of Applied Sciences) argued that teachers must give instruction in selfregulation. It is not enough to simply give students the opportunity to learn independently. The skills required to do so must also be taught. Patrick Sins’ central idea is that self-regulated learning cannot be learned in a self-regulated manner.
In the second lecture, Matt Birch and Kaj Schwermer explained how they incorporate self-regulated learning into their daily teaching practice at Dalton Tokyo Junior and Senior High School.
