New Releases

December 2025/ January 2026

In December 2025, a new edition of Education on the Dalton Plan was published by Leonon, a Dutch publishing house specializing in progressive education. An introduction by René Berends about the content and impact of Parkhurst’s publication on her Dalton Laboratory Plan has been added to Parkhurst’s 1922 book. The introduction is written in Dutch.
In January 2026, the same publication will be released entirely in English for the international market. The introduction has been translated into English. The English edition will feature a foreword by Elvira van den Hoek, chair of the Dutch Dalton Association, and Elisabeth Krents, Director of the Helen Parkhurst Institute New York.

As the popularity of Dalton education grows, so does the need for information about Parkhurst’s life, her ideas, and her own teaching experiments. This biography aims to meet that need. It paints a picture of a woman who wanted to give children a voice in their work and in their own lives and succeeded in doing so through her tirelessness and powerful personality.

This publication was produced in 2011 by the Dalton Education research group at Saxion University of Applied Sciences in Deventer (The Netherlands). Extensive research was conducted at the time, including in Parkhurst’s hometown of Durand, in the archives of the University of Stevens Point (Wisc.) and at the Dalton School in New York. We are delighted that this biography has now been translated into English for the international market.
